“boundary zone”(detail, under construction) 2017 H2615xW590xD590mm fiberglass resin, acrylic and urethane

CASHI is pleased to present Sachiko Miki’s solo exhibition Boundary Zone from Saturday, April 15 to Sunday, May 21.
Using tears and emotions as motifs, Miki has created sculptures that both look like a baby in the womb and an alien. With shiny ceramic-like texture, the human figures are adorable and also have the amorous vigor of living creatures.
In this exhibition, Miki went beyond her conventional theme of emotions and cast a look at “what is uncontrollable” in herself. Boundary Zone represents ambiguity that is generated in the course of categorizing and recognizing everything in the world. The region in our body and mind that we can neither sense nor control may be larger than we think, such as physiological functions of our body and wavering emotions that go against our will.
Miki begins with drawings in making artworks in order to unleash unconsciousness. Human figures that come into existence based on these drawings seem like a different kind of creatures living in the untouchable Boundary Zone. When we stand in front of these figures, we may realize the significance of something unconscious and uncontrollable that we are not aware of in our daily life.
This exhibition showcases Miki’s new works only, mainly featuring large works that almost reach the ceiling. We are looking forward to seeing you at the exhibition and please invite your friends to the show as well.
