"Life is Merely a Time Killer" 2016 Single-channel video installation

Galerie Tokyo Humanité is pleased to announce EBATA Aayko's solo exhibition Life is Merely a Time Killer. Fishes with human faces, plants with legs -- Ebata creates strange but humorous creatures using eraser stamps. "If you have to live as a loach from tomorrow..." Ebata invites us to the world that you can't see (or you think you can't see). In her new video work, those creatures move around freely and show us the deepwater world where they kill their time.
Born in 1985 in Ibaraki, Japan, Ebata received her BA in Art from Tokyo University of the Arts in 2009. Eraser stamps, printmaking, metal carving, and ceramics are a few examples of various techniques that she used in her previous two solo exhibitions in our gallery.
