Misa Sugata Solo Exhibition Announcement

More often than not, we are bombarded with innumerable amounts of visual stimuli, to the point of being numb to it all. This can have an effect on our bodies, almost like a ringing in one's ear. “We are filled with an overflow of memory and raging emotions,”explains Sugata, who's two dimensional work captures casual moments, trivial happenings, and the forgotten moments that we don't mean to forget. Her animations are created out of a curiosity for the unseen world. She describes that “there is fun in making the invisible visible. In recent years she has started creating work by baking bread. These pieces called “Lumpy People”are born out of a predilection for the everyday people living each day, making up the fabric of modern Japanese society, with liveliness despite their clumsiness, being put up against or involved in all kinds of violence. All of Sugata's works incorporate various kinds of stimulus that is found in our everyday lives. For this exhibition three types of work will be shown at once. This is a new attempt for the artist. Please come and experience the “ringing” in your bodies that can be perceived by the congestion created by this blend of visual information, life, and emotions.
