Opened in 1986, Shizuoka Prefectural Museum of Art has a rich collection, chiefly of post-17th century Japanese and Western landscapes and modern sculptures, including several by Rodin. It is also well-known for its Rodin Wing, opened in 1994, in which Rodin's sculptures are displayed. These include "The Gates of Hell", the 6th cast and six figures of "The Burghers of Calais", and European sculptures from after the 19th century. Visitors can appreciate the exhibits, walking around in a huge bright space.

Besides the Oriental and Western landscapes and the sculptures, an exhibition focusing on contemporary art and the artists of Shizuoka Prefecture has recently been held, and was well received. It is also an enjoyable experience to walk up the 300m sculpture promenade encompassed in green to the museum front gate.
