The“Dojima River Biennale 2009” is a contemporary art festival held every second year at Dojima River Forum located by Dojima River in Osaka. In the first edition of the Biennale is titled “Reflection: The World Through Art” and we are introducing 26 artworks from the Singapore Biennale, one of the prominent Asian international art exhibitions in Singapore directed by Fumio Nanjo (Artistic Director of Singapore Biennale 2006 and 2008, Director of Mori Art Museum, Tokyo). Today the world is facing serious problems such as the current economic crisis, conflicts, poverty, and continual and progressive environmental deterioration. Attempting to draw our attention to these political, social and cultural problems from different points of view, contemporary art plays its role as a mirror reflecting the present of the world. In this era of globalization, where is Japan heading and where are we all going?
