Wichita Falls, Texas, a city with the white population of 75%. I stayed there in the autumn of 2013 and created another kinetic work with a car to spin. Generally I look for objects to spin near the place where the exhibition I take part in is held. I had found a Trabant in Berlin, a Ford in Ireland and a fishing boat in Kita-Kyushu and spun them at each place. In Wichita Falls I got a Chevrolet Deluxe of the 1949 model, the iconic automobile of the golden days of the United States after World War II. The Chevy had been abandoned in the grassy field of a ranch for about 60 years. It had long lost the engine, but the rusted body kept the car’s original shape almost completely. It met the conditions for my object to spin. I used the engine from a Honda Accord of the 1991 model offered by a local person as the motive power to spin the old Chevy. The exhibition in Tokyo shows a documentary video on how I worked in Texas, with drawings and small pieces I made there. (Hironari Kubota)
