ジェレミー・コストはジェンダーやセクシャリティ、ナイトライフをテーマに撮り続けている写真家です。 テキサス州、コーパスクリスティで生まれた彼は、現在ニューヨークを活動のベースにしていますが、カリフォルニアの砂漠で男性モデルを撮影したと思ったら、ピッツバーグの道を気取って歩くドラッグクィーンを撮りに行くなど、世界中を飛び回って活躍しています。
被写体の選び方やテクニックの面など、ウォーホールに強く影響を受けており、ウォーホールが生み出した手法であるポラロイドカメラ、シルクスクリーン印刷工程などをさらにクリエイティブに発展させています。 コストのポラロイド作品を見ると、それはシルクスクリーンの基礎がそのまま表現されているだけでなく、それがさらに精巧に無数のレイヤーとして配置された、フォトコラージュになっています。
「これらの作品では、私が撮影した被写体のキャラクターを自然且つビビッドに捉えました。被写体のパーソナリティを大胆に強調し、ド派手な衣装と、全体のトーン、 背景へのこだわりによってこれを実現させました。」
