“The Buddha Statues Exhibition II”, featuring the creation of the new Buddha statue will be held.It is fresh in our memory how worked everybody up over “The National Treasure Ashura Exhibition” of last year. And this year, with the completion of renewal of National Treasure Museum of Kofukuji Temple, it seems that the enormous turnout of people will visit Nara. The characteristics of boom from last year can be said that not only a small group of art enthusiast and older people, but the younger generation who have nothing to do with the Buddha statues, especially women are involved and adding the gaiety. The history boom may be affecting to this movement. Becoming of the exhibitions at a museum and an art museum to be an entertainment may be influencing to it. The young generation do not see those Buddha images as something old-fashioned anymore and now they enjoy them as they are and use their own words such as ”cute”, ”cool”, ”healing” and "well-done" to describe them. We believe that it is the right way to see art. The appearance of such generation today urges several artists to try to create their own Buddha images. This exhibition showcases the new Buddha statues created by the contemporary artists who take lessons from the past. * The text provided by MAKII MASARU FINE ARTS.
