Solo exhibition of Yoshito Kawabata (b. 1954) , curated by Jiro Nagakusa.
I want to write sentences before seeing kawabata's works.
His works cause such a temptation.
I saw his work in Kyoto ten years ago. It was a hole dug up on a full floor in the gallery.
When the hole in the center of painting 《 Un enterrement à Ornans 》 of Courbet who caused the revolution of realism in the 19th century (1850) is seen, I recall akwabata. It is felt that in the work and the outside revolve by the dynamism of the material and the time-space.
It is objet of the consuming society that is buried if it is called "Burial" like Courbet. And, if the ceremony of the burial is an art, only his work will be able to be called the art of modern Osaka. - Jiro Nagakusa
