‘Selection Exhibition Project of Students from Master's Program in Sculpture at the Graduate School of Art, Tama Art University’ includes exhibitions at the gallery in Tokyo. And every year, two excellent students are chosen by the department of sculpture of Tama Art University. Sasaki Yu's installation using video, sounds and sculptural materials does speak to our senses. Through this work she has been researching the changing role of women under such circumstances as today’s nuclear families and paternalistic family system. It was a result of her own experience in her parents’ divorce and since then she has been trying to rebuild her identity, and at the same time it gave her an opportunity to realise the serious ongoing problems that are lying underneath such family situations affecting majority of Japanese populations. In this exhibition she has chosen a male model to play her real father’s role to have a conversation. Through connections and memories that come out from this conversation, she questions the way of complex family situations and relationships between parent and child of the opposite sex.
