Can we explain the relationship between the artist and his/her material as just ‘subject’ and ‘object’? Material is actually a ‘substance’ but it all depends on the artist or its culture whether it is an ‘object’ for him/her. When Mai Horayama creates the work of art using ‘metal’ she encourages her material ‘metal’ to react to her action or in other words she waits until it starts talking to her, instead of her controlling it to make her thoughts and ideas come together to become the piece of work. And by the continuous actions and reactions it seems to enable herself ‘be melted into the metal’ or ‘breathe in the metal’. Being able to start feeling this means the beginning of her ‘art work’. http://galleryk.la.coocan.jpInformation Provided by: Gallery K Period: December 3,2018 (Mon) 〜 December 15,2018 (Sat) |
