This will be the first exhibition of this artist at FOIL GALLERY, as well as artist's first solo exhibition at a gallery in Japan in 10 years. With its characteristic illustration of women with long neck, TSUWAKI became well known in publishing and advertising field both domestically and internationally. In this exhibition, however, he challenges himself by deconstructing his familiar, rather formalised style to explore new possibility of beauty. The woman, has been a motif he has continuously used in his works. As TSUWAKI notes he "kept drawing however my hand moves", variety of women are uniquely portrayed in the newly produced about 100 works. Elegant but devilish, or innocent but somehow scandalous - connoting such binary oppositions at the same time, Tsuwaki's women appeal the viewer sensually and motherly at times. By using Chinese ink and water-colored pencil, the contingency and unexpectability further strengthen the fascinating, transient beauty of the woman.
