Yoshimi Arts is pleased to announce the exhibition "Shigeru Izumi 1960-70's". Shigeru Izumi was born in Osaka in 1922. He established the avant-garde art group "Democratic Artists Association" together with Ei-Q and other artists in 1951. In 1957, received the Newcomer's Award at the 1st International Biennial Exhibition of Prints in Tokyo. From 1959, he spent about a decade in New York and had experienced the transition of the art scene from abstract expressionism to pop art. He then crossed the ocean to Paris in 1963. The art informel movement was developing at the time, ushering his creative activity right away after settling in Paris. He had an opportunity to present his works, and his works have also become the collection of Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris. His return in 1970 was welcomed especially by the Osaka University who had appointed him as a professor. After spending 9 years in New York and Paris, Izumi had started to produce new works using an air compressor at the university. In this exhibition, we introduce a dozen of his paintings made during his time in Paris from 1963 to 1968 as well as the time until he started using an air compressor at the beginning of 1970's. ■Gallery Talk (Japanese) Masahiro Yasugi (the head researcher of the National Museum of Art, Osaka) June 9, 15:00- free, no reservation required
